Impotence And Smoking

Roughly one billion years after the first organisms romped in the hay, sex remains a rage for a majority of us humans. Thankfully so, for we owe our existence to this first meeting of the genes. Scientists can't say what triggered those initial flirtations but many students of romance affirm that we tend to behave in a knee-jerk fashion in the presence of an attractive member of the opposite sex.

The pressures of today's fast-paced living have led to increasing incidence of sexual disorders which have marred the sex life of many couples. Today, one out of 10 men suffer from impotence.

The disorder occurs when something gets in the way of the process of erection. Erection comprises a series of perfectly coordinated set of events--involving the brain, which controls what you see, feel and think, the nerves which pass messages from your brain to your body and the blood vessels in your penis, which open to allow blood to flow in. Impotence can occur when any of the events are disrupted. The causes range from physical reasons like illness to emotional causes like stress, fatigue and resultant lack of sexual interest.

Smokers know that smoking may lead to all sorts of health problems. We know that cigarettes contains nicotine and 4000 other chemicals.

But one of the harmful effects that people ignore is that smoking and impotence and highly related and many smokers put their sex lives in jeopardy without knowing.

The probability of a depression is higher for smokers compared to a non-smoker. A person suffering from diabetes or have high blood pressure has a higher chance of suffering from erectile dysfunction. The cause of erectile dysfunction may be due to smoking.

Toxins such as carbon monoxide can cause damage to the circulatory system and restrict blood flow to the penis. Studies have also indicated that men smokers have lower sperm count compared to men who do not smoke. Men smokers also have a higher proportion of malformed sperm.

The intake of tobacco smoke will result in fatty deposits blocking the blood flow to the penis due to smoking. This usually lead to male impotence problems. Excess nicotine consumption will also result in rapid contractions inn the penile tissue. Nicotine will also affect the brain which will restrict the arterial blood flow into the penis.
