Impotence in Modern Men

The word impotence brings on a feeling of dread in men. It is considered to be one of the major issues that men of today face. Previously, it was considered to be an issue that only old or sick men suffered from, but that is not the case anymore. Impotence is now common even in men who are in their 30s and 40s.

The problem with men suffering from impotence is that many men do not wish to accept the facts and continue to put up appearances that all is fine and they are as powerful as anyone else. Smoking is actually one of the most common reasons for impotence. Clinical studies have showed that being a smoker may increase a man's risk of erectile dysfunction in men between 30 and 50 years by 50 percent. Not only does smoking affect a man's ability to form an erection but it is also responsible for decreasing a man's sperm count, increasing sperm mortality and decreasing a man's sex drive.

There are a number of other lifestyle factors that make a man more likely to suffer from impotence. Being overweight and not exercising often are possible causes sexual dysfunction. Cigarettes contains nicotine which causes restriction to the arteries. If this occurs, the chemicals released occurs when a man becomes aroused cannot adequately send the right signals to allow a penis to relax. Instead there is a restriction of blood flow to and through the genital area.

What causes impotence? There are different reasons; lifestyle, psychological and physical. While the majority suffer because of psychological and physical factors, there are some caused due to lifestyle and many cases have been seen where mild impotence has increased due to lifestyles.

Lifestyle causes include consumption of nicotine, heroin, alcohol, steroids and cocaine. Another lifestyle factor includes obesity caused by inactivity.

To be able to enjoy sex and provide good sex to the female partner, it is important to have a fit and a well-nourished body. Exercise along with a balanced diet plays a very important role.
